Our Day With the Group
Morning at the Crannogs!I had NO idea what a Crannog was, but we had an excellent guide at the Crannog Center who explained that it was a prehistoric house built on stilts over the loch (lake). The center is sort of a living history museum with a reconstructed Crannog, as well as some areas to practice making fire and grinding the wheat. It was one of those stops that I might have passed up if I had been on my own. I'm so glad that Rick and his gang find these gems to enrich my travel experiences!

A walk, lunch, and WHISKY!
We got to stretch our legs with a walk at The Hermitage. It was a tree lined path along a river. It was good to get a bit of exercise as later we would indulge in Scottish treats! Our lunch stop was the cute little town of Dunkeld where we were free to roam and find lunch. We popped into the first café we found, and were delighted with tasty sandwiches and Scottish hospitality. Our final adventure for the afternoon was Whisky! I completely confess that I am not a whisky drinker, but when in Scotland...
The tour was informative and of course, at the end, was the tasting room. |

Our Group Dinner
|
Both nights that we stayed in Kenmore we had group dinners at our hotel, basically because there is no where else to eat in this tiny town! Tonight's dinner though, had entertainment! We were treated to Gillie and her bag pipes. It was amazing to see her play and the sound was so powerful, it reverberated through your bones! There were a few of us that bravely tried to play the pipes. I got sound out, can't say that I "played" them!

The Most Magical Part of The Day
The most magical part of the whole day, though, was when my mom and I went out for an evening stroll and captured my favorite photo of the whole trip.
Dear Friends:
Today was quintessential Scotland...bagpipes, whisky, and fields of sheep!
The day started by learning about crannogs...prehistoric homesteads built over the lochs. We then moved on to a whisky distillery where I learned I'm not really a whisky drinker. The day ended with a bagpipe demonstration where I bravely tried to create sound out of the bagpipes. It was similar to giving birth...
There was some short bread in there too at some point... I wholeheartedly recommend the shortbread...the whisky I'm not sure about.
