Our Day With the Group
Today's pilgrimage was to the Isle of Iona. This is basically an all day journey that involves four boat rides and two bus rides. The first boat ride takes you to Mull where you then have to catch a bus to ride along a one lane road that has two way traffic! Once you have crossed the entire length of Mull then you hop another boat to cross to Iona. Then to leave Iona, you must reverse all that transportation!
Iona was an interesting place to experience and connected our previous travels in Ireland and the Book of Kells, as this is where the book was supposed to have originated. The island itself is a bit remote and desolate. There were a few cute shops and cafes in the main town area. But the main attraction on the island is the Abbey. Helen walked us all up the path to the Abbey and then set us free for a bit of time. Mom and I wandered through the abbey and then enjoyed just strolling our way back to the town area, finding a picnic spot along the way. |
You Might Be A Travel Geek IF...you get recognized in the Heathrow Airport. Our TRIO was heading to the bus terminal in Heathrow when a woman stopped us because she noticed our Rick Steves travel patches. As she was talking to us, she realized she knew us from my other travel scrapbooks!

Our Free Evening
It was dinner time by the time we arrived back in Oban. Many in the group were excited about eating more seafood for dinner, as it is the local specialty. I, personally, do not like seafood. So Mom and I found a pizza place and relaxed! As I looked out the window during dinner I saw this bus, and thought it summed up my feelings about traveling!

Dear Friends:
The Isle of Iona was today's destination.
It only took a boat, then a bus, then another boat to get there. (And then reverse that to get back!) It was a relaxing day...except for the one lane road with two way traffic!
The views were breathtaking with an ever changing sky.
